Medical Doctors at Hatmed

Dr. Erwin Lingenfelder

I was born in the Free State and spent my early years in a very small town. My father practised as a family doctor and he would often take me along on house calls to farms in the district. I remember the excitement as his VW Beetle sped along the gravel roads! We relocated to Pretoria just in time for me to start primary school. I matriculated at the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) in 1974, where I learnt the value of friendship and respect. During my medical studies at the University of Pretoria our country went through a traumatic time. After qualifying in 1980, I completed my internship in Kroonstad, at the very same hospital where I was born! Two years of military service took me to Namibia and KwaZulu Natal.

In 1984, I started private practice in Pretoria with a school friend as my partner. Our rooms were close to tertiary institutions, and through my career, this has not changed.

Interacting with the student community has been interesting and gratifying. Meeting tomorrow's leaders has been a privilege and a positive experience. I am one of the founding partners of Hatmed, which we started more than 25 years ago as part of a fully fledged medical centre. As a general practitioner, or Huisdokter, I find myself in the position to interact with people from all walks of life. I have been a doctor to leaders of countries, diplomats from many foreign lands, families and unforgettable individuals, some of whom have become dear friends.

On 10 May 1994, I was present at the Union Buildings for the inauguration of President Nelson Mandela. I was in command of the medical back up team and I will never forget the fact that I was his doctor for a day! In 2018 when we remembered his birth 100 years before, we set about updating our waiting room. It was an unanimous decision that Madiba would occupy a special place in it.

My family always comes first and I thank them for their support and understanding. We love exploring our beautiful country and when time allows we travel abroad. At home the most important places are the kitchen, the outside braai area and mostly, around the dining table!

Dr. Johan Momberg

I qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Pretoria, then travelled abroad to spend six months working in England. After returning to South Africa, I went into private practice and became one of the founding members of Hatmed in 1995. I'm a family physician, with a special interest in immigration, pre-employment and executive medicals.

Inspired by my love for travelling and my knowledge of travel requirements, I started Hatmed Travel Clinic. I have a interest in travel medicine and have been a member of The South African Society of Travel Medicine since its inception.

A keen sportsman in my spare time, I completed the Comrades marathon, Argus and 94.7 cycle tours. I've also taken part in various mountain bike races and have summited Mount Kilimanjaro. Another great personal passion is cooking. I love to try out adventurous new dishes and to explore the potential of my pizza oven.

Dr. Sonia Kotze

I studied medicine at the University of the Free State and qualified as a medical doctor in 2012. My internship years were completed in Pietermaritzburg at the Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex, thereafter I did my community service in Potchefstroom working at the Emergency Unit as well as in Ophthalmology. In 2016 I completed a Diploma in Primary Emergency Care.

I am passionate about helping people and being in medicine has given me the opportunity to impact different people on all walks of life. Health plays a central role in all of our lives, being in the profession has deepen my appreciation for my own and inspired me to assist others to the best of my ability.

In my free time I love to travel and explore new places. Experiencing different cultures has a way to broaden one's perspective and has certainly done that for me. I value my family and friends deeply and love to spend quality time with them.

Dr. Blessing Thusi

I qualified as a medical doctor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and moved to Johannesburg to start my medical career in an internship at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital-Johannesburg General Hospital. My community service and Medical Officer years were spent in Vereeniging, from 2010.

My passion for clinical medicine grows daily as I view the medical profession as a crucial part of my life. I have a keen interest in paediatrics but enjoy working with people of all ages.

Nothing makes me happier than spending quality time with my beautiful wife, family and friends, and I enjoy preparing food with them and watching sports. Interacting and learning from people of different cultures excites me, and I love to travel yet still believe that we live in the most beautiful and diverse country in the world.

Dr. Eliz-Mari Delport

I qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Pretoria in 2013. I enjoyed being a student at Tukkies and have only the fondest memories of my time on campus and in residence. In 2010, I had the privilege of being Primaria of House Curlitzia.

After graduation, I did my two-year internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg, and will always be thankful for the amazing training I received there. I returned to Pretoria in 2016 to do my community service at Tshwane District Hospital, where I worked in the HIV clinic. During this year, I also completed my Diploma in HIV Management.

I'm passionate about using the medical profession to impact positively on the youth of today and strive to be a positive influence on young minds. I love being part of a profession focused on helping others lead healthier and happier lives.

In my personal time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Dr. Annette Preis - DENTIST

After graduating from the University of Pretoria as a dentist, I initially worked at clinics for the Department of Health. I then became a lecturer at the University of Pretoria, where I did an Honours degree in Dentistry and a Diploma in Tertiary Education. I had my own private practice, which I later sold to spend time with my two sons while working part-time.

For years, I was part of the team at a medical centre and enjoyed the interaction with my medical colleagues. I'm a family dentist and like to get to know my patients better while treating patients of all ages. At home, I like to be adventurous in the kitchen with new recipes.

My hobbies include reading, photography, crossword puzzles and sewing. I've written and edited primary school handbooks, tag heuer replica travelled abroad and to neighbouring countries and done off-roading. I love nothing more than spending time with family and friends, and when on holiday, visiting and exploring little towns and places.
